Ingredient Spotlight

Exosomes: The New Frontier Worth Watching

Exosomes are one of the most talked-about ingredients in advanced skincare right now. They sound technical because they are. In simple terms, exosomes are tiny messenger particles involved in cell communication. In skincare, they are often used in formulas that focus on repair, renewal, firmness, and a healthier-looking complexion.

For women over 50, that idea is naturally appealing. Mature skin often needs more support with recovery, texture, firmness, and glow. The skin may not bounce back as quickly. It may look tired more easily. It may feel like it takes longer to recover after irritation, stress, or dryness.

How It Works

Your skin and hair, decoded.

A thoughtful resource for understanding your skin and hair, one concern and ingredient at a time.

01

Start with your concern

Begin with what matters most to you right now, whether that is hyperpigmentation, dryness, thinning edges, scalp changes, barrier care, or something else.

02

Understand the ingredients

Learn what the ingredients in your skincare and haircare actually do, how they work, and where they may fit into the needs of mature melanin-rich skin and textured hair.

03

Explore products with context

Discover products with clear editorial guidance around what they do, who they may suit, and what to consider before buying. Affiliate relationships and sponsored partnerships are always disclosed.

04

Build a routine that makes sense

Use what you have learned to make more considered choices, avoid unnecessary products, and build a routine that feels right for your skin, hair, and lifestyle.

Lucy Bieri - Founder of The Melanin Tone

About The Founder

22 years. One conviction.

The Melanin Tone grew from 22 years of salon experience serving Black women, and from one lasting conviction: the beauty industry has too often lacked the clarity, context, and consideration that melanin-rich skin and textured hair deserve.

That experience was followed by further professional training in skincare and a dermatology-facing role, deepening an understanding of how skin, hair, ingredients, and ageing intersect.

Today, The Melanin Tone is a considered digital space for Black women over 50 seeking honest, ingredient-led guidance for melanin-rich skin and textured hair through menopause, ageing, and beyond.

“Beauty is not about chasing youth. It is about understanding what is changing.”
